Complete Description

MD or DO BE/BC in a medical or surgical specialty. Previous healthcare administrative experience is desired but not required. Must be Board Certified in Internal Medicine.

Coordinate, aid and supervise all activities of the Inpatient Medical Services (IMS) physician group at Piedmont Fayette hospital including but not limited to: all clinical shift scheduling including vacation and overtime, participating in clinical duties as required; ensuring that all physicians maintain their clinical competence; aid in the development of new physicians to the group; aid any physicians who are having clinical difficulties and maintain a record of such issues, corrective action and degree of improvement; coordinate regular IMS physician group meetings, developing and maintaining collegial relationships with all the Medical Staff through liaison with other Medical Staff Departments and Sections; ensure IMS physicians adherence to the Piedmont Fayette Hospital Code of Conduct, Medical Staff Rules, Regulations and By Laws; ensure adherence to all Piedmont Fayette Hospital (PFH), Piedmont Medical Care Clinic (PMCC) and Piedmont Healthcare (PHC) policies and procedures; perform regular service excellence rounding and maintenance of rounding logs; participate in Recovery Audit Contractors (RAC) strategies; develop, institute and maintain strategies to achieve a patient length of stay at or below the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) National average; develop, institute and maintain strategies to lower raw mortality and Hospital Specific Mortality (HSMR) to achieve the National 90th percentile or better; participate in the annual budget planning process including capital item planning for the IMS; reconcile monthly the IMS budget; participate in Medical Staff committees and hospital meetings as requested or required; maintain personnel information and perform annual performance reviews of all IMS physicians; report on activities, progress and challenges regularly to the Vice President Medical Affairs (VPMA) and other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Develop and maintain IMS (Inpatient Medical Services) rotation schedule to ensure complete coverage of all shifts.
2. Orient new IMS physicians and AHP to hospital to include physical layout, introduction to Medical Staff members and Administration, location of policies and procedures, schedule and ensure compliance with computer order entry training, schedule and ensure compliance with documentation coaching training.
3. Provide back up clinical coverage for any unanticipated IMS rotation vacancy.
4. Review and approve all shift rotation changes and vacation requests to ensure adequate staffing levels at all times.
5. Coordinate personnel change requests with VPMA (Vice President Medical Affairs) and aid in the annual budget process.
6. Ensure that IMS staff adheres to all Piedmont Healthcare, Piedmont Fayette Hospital and Piedmont Medical Care Clinic policies and procedures including, but not limited to; Code of Conduct, Compliance Training, Medical Records completion and Best Practices Pathways, Order Sets and Protocols.
7. Reconcile and Review the IMS budget with the VPMA, CFO and COO monthly.
8. Ensure and maintain that all IMS physicians complete at least 40 hours of CME every two years and maintain ACLS certification.
9. Conduct monthly meetings of the IMS physicians, record minutes and submit those minutes to the MEC. Address all action items from these meetings.
10. Conduct monthly (or more frequent as necessary) meetings with the Emergency Room Medical Director to ensure optimal patient flow and collegial interaction.
11. Attend and help coordinate daily multidisciplinary rounds to expedite optimal in hospital patient care.
12. Be a member of and actively participate in: Performance Improvement, Patient Safety, Code, Rapid Response, and Critical Care Practice committees.
13. Attend Medical Executive Committee as a non voting member.
14. Regularly attend the PFH Directors' meeting
15. Train for and participate in National Incident Command System duties
16. Represent the PFH IMS at PHC IMS meetings and functions
17. Encourage and coordinate IMS physician participation in at least one Medical Staff or Hospital committee annually and monitor participation.
18. Perform regular service excellence rounding and maintain rounding logs.
19. Develop, institute and maintain strategies to lower length of stay to the CMS National average.
20. Encourage, monitor and aid in professional development of the IMS physician group.
21. Encourage, aid and develop a spirit of ownership for patient care and Medical Staff participation by all IMS physicians
22. At least 50% of the IMS Medical Director's time will be spent in direct patient contact activities
23. Meet weekly with the VPMA to report on progress, barriers and plans to meet the requirements of the duties and responsibilities
24. Any other duties or responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the VPMA, COO and/or CEO PFH
