Join an established, dynamic and expanding Intensivist service at a prestigious community hospital with a state-of-the-art Critical Care program. The Intensivist service currently consists of 4 full time physicians, with expectations for rapid growth to ultimately accommodate 24/7 in house MD coverage. At this time, night coverage is provided by mid-level providers with Intensivist backup. The Intensivists are employed by the hospital.
Work milieu: Although the units are open, the Intensivists are the primary managers of most patients in close consultation with subspecialists. Coverage schedule is very comfortable with a block schedule of 10 hour shifts alternating between an equal number of days working with days off. Midlevel back-up night call is taken from home in equal rotation among the group members. Expect to see approximately 15 patients or less in a 10-hour day.
The desirable candidate will be BC/BE in Critical Care and be very comfortable with providing comprehensive care to patient's critical illnesses, involving any system. He/she will be comfortable performing usual ICU procedures in addition to conventional and rescue modes of mechanical ventilation. The ability to perform percutaneous tracheostomies and fluoroscopically placed gastrostomy tubes will be an attractive additional qualification.
